Sciatica refers to severely painful spasms along the sciatic nerve of the leg. This nerve runs from the back of the thigh, down the inside of the leg, to the ankle. Among the possible causes of sciatica are trauma or inflammation of the nerve itself, sprained joints in the lower back rupture of a disk between the spinal bones, or neuritis.
Treatment for sciatica includes rest and hot, wet applications to the affected leg for the relief of pain and inflammation. The vitamin B complex is essential for the health of nerve tissue.
